1. Overview
Marginalia ("the App") is a native iOS application that adds borders and margins to photos. We are committed to your privacy. This policy explains in plain language what data the App collects, how it is used, and your rights.
Short version: the App does not collect personal data, does not require an account, and does not send your photos or information to any server.
2. Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email, or any personal identifiers.
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not use advertising networks or track your behavior.
- We do not have analytics SDKs embedded in the App.
- We do not upload your photos to any server — all processing happens entirely on your device.
3. Photo access and processing
The App requests access to your device's photo library solely to allow you to load photos for editing. Your photos are processed entirely on-device. No image data is transmitted to any external server, cloud service, or third party.
Output photos are saved back to your photo library or shared directly to the destination you choose — both operations are handled by iOS and do not involve any intermediary server.
4. EXIF metadata
Marginalia preserves EXIF metadata (including camera model, date, and optionally GPS location) in exported photos, as this is one of the App's core features.
We do not read, transmit, or store this metadata. It remains embedded in the photo file on your device and travels with the photo only if you choose to share it. If you wish to remove location data from photos before sharing, iOS's built-in sharing sheet offers this option.
5. In-App Purchases
The App offers an optional one-time Premium upgrade via Apple's In-App Purchase system. All payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple's privacy policy governs the purchase transaction.
Apple may share a non-identifiable purchase receipt with us to verify the transaction. No other personal data is involved.
6. Third-party services
The App does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or social login services. The only third-party interaction is Apple's StoreKit for In-App Purchases, governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
7. Children's privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Since no personal data is collected from any user, the App is safe for use by all ages.
8. Data retention
Because we do not collect personal data, there is no data to retain or delete. All app preferences (color choices, recent ratios) are stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage (UserDefaults) and never leave the device.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if the App's functionality changes. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
